Infrastructure

"Upgrading and expanding our existing infrastructure is essential for driving development, investment, and the creation of new jobs. As such, investing in our infrastructure needs to be a top priority for the county."

Water & Sewer: The Foundation of Everything Else

Access to water and sewer service is the single biggest determinant of whether a community can attract development and support its existing residents. Without it, housing is more difficult to build, businesses can't invest in infrastructure here, and property values stagnate. Making water and sewer available in the right places will encourage development, which will create new jobs and drive economic activity.

  • Coordinate utility capacity planning with development approvals so growth doesn't outpace infrastructure
  • Pursue state and federal funding for water and sewer expansion projects
  • Ensure key development corridors - including the rail trail - have the utility access needed to support responsible growth

The Rail Trail Corridor

The Thermal Belt Rail Trail is one of the county's most valuable public assets. The land along the corridor has real development potential - for housing, businesses, and tourism - but only if the supporting infrastructure is in place. Getting water and sewer to that corridor is an investment that pays back many times over.

  • Prioritize water and sewer access along the rail trail corridor to unlock development potential
  • Explore grants and public-private partnerships to fund trail expansion, connectivity, and amenities
  • Pursue new and creative funding mechanisms beyond traditional county capital budgets to support rail trail maintenance and expansion
